Find Your Life’s Purpose
Have you ever wondered what your essential purpose is, what you’re on the planet to do – to quote my teacher, ‘why they bothered to send you down here at all’?
I did, until a few years ago, when I came across a very powerful approach to finding it, called Core Process, that helps people understand what it is they’re doing when they are at their very best. It was developed by a chap called Chris Bull, a consultant working with the chemical giant ICI, and I was fortunate to be taught Core Process by Nick Heap, who worked with Chris and has taken on the mantle of teaching it.
The great thing about getting your Core Process is that, like most truly powerful self-discovery, it’s something you do yourself – with the facilitator encouraging and guiding you through the steps. Your Core Process is made up of two words – the thing you’re doing (an ‘-ing’ verb) and the thing you’re doing it to or with. An “-ing” and a “thing”.
We get to it by you thinking about stories of times when you were really what I call “alive and alight” in the world – totally in your flow, an experience of complete joyfulness. I work with you to arrive at a selection of possible words; then you find the two that encapsulate the very essence of the verbs and the essence of the nouns. It’s very rarely what you expect it to be, so don’t try to guess it without going through the process – you’ll almost surely be surprised!
The essence of you at your very best!
My Core Process is “Encouraging Potential“, and it provides me with an effective touchstone to help me decide whether I want to do something or not. If it fits with Encouraging Potential, I’m happy to do it; if not, I’ll pass. Although my Core Process happened to come out as a phrase that makes some kind of sense to other people, it’s not intended for them. A Core Process just has to make sense to its “owner”, not the rest of the world!
Some are perfectly suited to becoming a marketing message or even a brand – mine would be (although it’s been hijacked by my wife for her coaching business – she says that by letting her use it, I’m Encouraging her Potential!). Others make sense only to their owners, as a reminder of what they’re doing when they are completely in their flow. One I did recently came out as “Being Joy” – not really something the owner of a marketing agency is likely to use in their branding. Though why not, I suppose!
The session takes 2-3 hours, although we carry on until we find the phrase that’s perfect for you, that really resonates with you. The fee for doing a Core Process – for finding your life’s purpose - is just £300. A small price to pay for something that will guide you throughout the rest of your life!
